Leadership development creates the most value when it changes what leaders actually do. In this Texas Council National Conference presentation, the Gulf Coast Center and Dr. Julie Armstrong used the GCC LEADS initiative to demonstrate how sustained, evidence-based development can strengthen everyday leadership behaviors over time. The session highlighted measurable growth in areas such as coaching and feedback, supportive accountability, strategic thinking, trust, and communication—showing how intentional development can move leaders beyond task supervision toward a more developmental approach to leading people.
The presentation also emphasized that meaningful leadership growth requires more than a one-time workshop. GCC LEADS combined structured learning, peer connection, real-world practice, and ongoing reinforcement, then evaluated impact through both participant self-assessment and direct-report feedback.
